Decisions, Decisions

The obligatory hands-holding-print shot
One of my favourite projects from the archive, Decisions, Decisions is an oldie that even spawned its own limited edition print.
The project was based around a speculative menu design that aimed to make a customer’s choice of food easier. I didn’t need to look far for inspiration for the project, since being a naturally indecisive person, I was constantly facing the embarrassment of being unable to make a choice from the bounty of food before me.

Decisions, Decisions, try making one
Using a menu from the London restaurant Bistrotheque as a starting point (chosen at random) I rationalised all the reasons why someone would go to a restaurant or choose a particular dish. By taking into account the company held, the time of day, the weather and much more I was able to create a massive handwritten flow diagram.

Decisions, Decisions textlie pattern - yup, the cushion is upside down

A detail of the Decisions, Decisions pattern
Once I managed to nail down the structure of the diagram I worked it into a tessellating shape – allowing the flow-diagram to become a never-ending pattern of decision.
With a completed pattern, I explored how the menu could be ‘woven’ into the restaurant itself through wallpaper and textile application.
